The Occitan cross, also known as the cross of Languedoc or the cross of Toulouse, is a historic emblem whose origins go back to the Middle Ages. Popularised by the Counts of Toulouse, it is today the symbol of Occitanie and its rich cultural heritage. Its twelve ball-shaped tips are traditionally interpreted as the twelve months of the year, the twelve signs of the zodiac or the twelve apostles, depending on the tradition.

    The heraldic study

    Coat of arms, motto and external ornaments are redrawn by the rules of heraldry before being transferred onto the wood.

    Relief carving

    Carved from the solid, the relief is then reworked by hand: its details are refined with a chisel.

    The ceremonial finish

    A patina, heraldic tinctures in polychromy or gold leaf bring out the character of the piece.

Care

Wall pieces: regular dusting with a soft brush preserves the relief. Gilded parts are never touched with bare hands.

Keep away from direct humidity. The workshop can apply a microcrystalline wax over patinas.
