Dado Rails & Friezes

A piece shaped with care,
from log to finish.

Historically used to structure reception rooms or protect walls, dado rails and friezes now bring unique relief and three-dimensional depth to contemporary and classic interiors alike.

The spiral motif is one of humanity's oldest symbols. It evokes perpetual motion, growth, renewal and vital energy. In ancient Egypt, the curve of the heqa sceptre, an attribute of the pharaohs, symbolised the ruler's protective authority and wisdom. In the Christian tradition, the bishop's crozier, whose head curls into a volute, represents the pastor's mission to guide and protect his people. Also found in Celtic, Greek and Renaissance art, the spiral expresses the balance between strength and harmony, making this dado rail an ornament rich in history and meaning.

    The profile is designed in 3D from the classical repertoire (spirals, Greek keys, egg-and-dart), or drawn to match an existing moulding.

    Lengths are carved so that the motif carries on from one length to the next.

    On request, the workshop provides a setting-out plan of lengths and angles to make fitting easier for your joiner.

Care

Once fitted, dado rails are dusted with a feather duster or a dry cloth. Inner corners are cleaned with a soft brush.

On a painted finish, a local touch-up with a brush is enough after a knock; the workshop can give you the reference of the products used.
